I love a creamy white sauce. Almost no matter the provenance, I am picking the dish with the white sauce. I appreciate that sausage gravy is very popular in certain parts of the country but in southern California, it’s not commonly found. Now I am not a biscuit lover or eater but still wanted to figure out a way to enjoy this gravy.
So in typical California fashion… I used it to top charred cabbage and broccoli. The end result was not beautiful, but it was incredibly delicious. It reminded me of that cabbage lasagna from last winter that I couldn’t stop making. The cruciferous vegetables cooked under that blanket of gravy and I found myself finishing off 2 helpings.
I get that people in the Midwest and South might think this is sacrilege and that biscuits are the only vehicle for sausage gravy but if you can get beyond that, I promise this is delicious.
